The pueo is the native Hawaiian owl. It inhabits open grasslands, hunting human-brought rodents and lizards. Before human settlement in the Hawaiian Islands it’s likely that pueo hunted other birds. They fly at dawn and dusk. Pueo make soft grass ground nests, rare for owls.
