The largest remaining fishpond wall in the state can be found at Kaloko Fishpond. It is 30-40ft wide and 6.5ft high and stretches 250 yards. The porous lava rocks and large makaha (sluice gate) allow fresh seawater to penetrate and circulate the fishpond while preventing large fish from the escaping. Fishponds are among the great feats of engineering by Hawaiians. Collectible patch iron-on kit.
