In 1970, Kamehameha sought advice from a powerful kahuna (priest) name Kāpoūkahi. This priest prophesied that war would end in Hawaiʻi if Kamehameha constructed a heiau (temple) dedicated to his family war god Kūkāʻilinoku at Puʻukohola. It is believed that thousands of men passed chain for 20 miles from Pololū Valley. With the temple completed and dedicated in 1971, Kamehameha set out to conquer the other islands. In 1810, King Kamehameha the Great succeeded in his quest to unify all of the Hawaiian Islands in peace.
