ʻŌhiʻa are native Hawaiian trees that are specially adapted to thrive in a volcanic landscape, and are on of the first plants to colonize new lava flows. The blossom of this tree is named “lehua”. In Hawaiian tradition, ʻōhiʻa trees and their blossoms are closely associated with the volcano deity Pele.
